Palma Campania - A massive column of black smoke rose into the sky above the province of Naples this morning, causing great concern among residents and becoming a landmark visible as far as the city of Naples.
The large fire broke out in an area on the border between Palma Campania and San Gennaro Vesuviano, a short distance from the Palma municipal cemetery.
The particularly dangerous fire affected a disused warehouse belonging to a former dried fruit factory. Although the structure had been abandoned for several years, it still contained large quantities of plastic drums and crates, whose rapidly igniting and toxic fuel fueled the flames.
The alarm went off immediately.
