Meta di Sorrento – A well-known designer jacket, like many others in circulation. But it was that very item of clothing, worn during a robbery, that landed a man now under house arrest.
A meticulous investigation by the Carabinieri of the Sorrento company closed the circle on a robbery carried out in a pub in Meta on January 26th, culminating in a reconstruction as unusual as it is effective.
The events date back to a cold January night, when a person broke into the premises after breaking down the front door with a fire extinguisher. Once inside, he forced open the cash register and stole approximately €1.500 in cash, before fleeing.
The investigation, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office, began with the analysis of video surveillance images, which captured the thief and, in particular, the jacket he was wearing.

Investigators cross-referenced the footage with phone traffic data, recordings from the black box of a rental car used in the robbery, and several witness statements. The lead led to a suspect, whose home, during a search, found a jacket identical to the thief's.
But this is where the investigation took a dramatic turn. To obtain irrefutable proof, the Carabinieri station commander had a hunch. Coincidentally, he happened to own the same model of jacket, and decided to personally verify the compatibility. The officer then went to the scene of the theft and acted as a "model," being filmed wearing the jacket.
The comparison between the new images and those from the night of the theft gave a positive result, confirming beyond a shadow of a doubt that the jacket was the same.
The combined evidence convinced the Torre Annunziata court's investigating judge to issue a precautionary house arrest warrant with an electronic bracelet. The man is charged with aggravated theft involving violence against property and a repeat offense within five years.

The article presents an interesting but somewhat confusing story. There's a lot of information, but it's unclear how it all happened. It's strange that a jacket could catch a thief; thieves usually wear ordinary clothes.
