The anticyclone that has given us almost spring-like days is coming to an end.summer San Martino, which arrived a week early this year, is about to give way to a drastic change in weather that will affect much of central and southern Italy this weekend.
As the weather proverb goes, "Indian Summer lasts three days and a bit." Meteorologists confirm that this spell of good weather—earlier than the traditional date of November 11th, the feast of Saint Martin of Tours—will faithfully follow the popular saying. Within three days, clouds and precipitation will return to the Italian peninsula.
The last rays of anomalous sunshine
Today and tomorrow, we'll continue to enjoy this exceptionally mild weather. Skies will remain clear from north to south, with some haze limited to the Po Valley and isolated cloud cover between Lower Calabria and Sicily. Maximum temperatures will reach 21-22°C in the major islands, while cities like L'Aquila, Latina, Naples, Rieti, Rome, and Terni will record abnormal temperatures around 20°C. A picture more reminiscent of April than November.
The vortex from the western Mediterranean
The turning point is expected on Thursday.

From late Thursday afternoon, the first rains will affect Sardinia, while the rest of the country will remain stable. On Friday, the low pressure system will reach Sicily, with some heavy rainfall. In the afternoon, further precipitation will cross the Tyrrhenian Sea, affecting Calabria, Campania, and Lazio. In the north and the remaining regions, dry weather will persist, with alternating sunny spells and clouds.
Weekend split in two
Saturday will mark a clear meteorological division across the Italian peninsula. Rain will move up the Adriatic coast to the Marche region, sparing the north and Tuscany, but bringing clouds and scattered showers from the Marche region southward, with alternating clearings amidst variable weather.
On Sunday, the Tyrrhenian Vortex will continue its action over the same areas, with potentially more widespread and persistent rain and local thunderstorms. This holiday therefore promises to be a must-see for much of central and southern Italy.
Record heat and freezing levels at summer altitudes
While rains are knocking on the door of the South, there's no sign of the winter cold. In the coming days, the freezing level will rise dramatically to 4000 meters, typical July levels that confirm the ongoing temperature anomaly.

It's interesting how the anticyclone brought such high temperatures, but I'm not sure the forecast is accurate. Let's hope the bad weather isn't too severe, otherwise there will be problems for everyone.
