A tense evening rocked Mondragone, where a 56-year-old man barricaded himself in his home on Via Monte Mileto, threatening to detonate a gas cylinder. The alarm was raised when several terrified residents called 112, reporting the man was clearly agitated. Within minutes, the area was surrounded by law enforcement: Carabinieri from the Mondragone Territorial Unit, officers from the Castel Volturno Police Station, the Fire Department, and paramedics from 118.
The building was immediately evacuated and the area secured. Inside the apartment, officers found the 56-year-old man sitting on the couch, clutching a 15-kg gas cylinder between his legs and holding a lighter. Initial investigations indicate the incident was related to condominium disputes that escalated into a violent disturbance.
Taking advantage of a moment of distraction, the Carabinieri managed to subdue him, disarm him, and secure the gas cylinder, averting potentially devastating consequences for the entire building. No residents were injured, thanks to the swift and coordinated intervention of law enforcement.

The incident was truly worrying and makes us reflect on how conflicts can escalate into such dire situations. I hope the authorities can find a solution to prevent something similar from happening again in the future.
