NAPLES – Naples' urban greenery is preparing for a true rebirth. By the end of the year, 3.700 new trees and 1.900 shrubs will be planted, as part of a replanting program promoted by the Department of Health and Parks. The projects, already underway throughout the city, aim to protect the tree population and improve the well-being of residents.

The operations include preparing the ground, removing stumps, and digging holes. In Vomero, where rows of plane trees occupy narrow sidewalks and are close to buildings and the roadway, a solution different from the general plan was chosen: instead of plane trees, slow-growing Elsrijk field maples will be planted, better suited to smaller spaces. This decision was shared with the Technical Committee for the Redevelopment of Urban Greenery, which involves municipal authorities, professional associations, and university departments.

To date, the program, funded by the Metropolitan City, has already resulted in the planting of approximately 3.000 trees and 800 shrubs. The second phase of the plan will ensure extensive and long-lasting redevelopment, enhancing the quality of life in the city and restoring more harmonious and safe green spaces for residents.
