The patron saint of the Carabinieri, the Virgo Fidelis, was established in 1949 by Pope Pius XII, impressed by the valor and loyalty demonstrated by the Carabinieri Battalion who made the supreme sacrifice of their lives in East Africa at Culqualber.
Precisely for this reason, on the sidelines of the religious ceremony, the Interregional Commander of the Carabinieri "Ogaden", Lieutenant General Massimo Masciulli, commemorated the sacrifice of those Carabinieri who, during the battle of Culqualber, resisted to the last in defense of the Ethiopian stronghold, demonstrating extraordinary courage and cohesion.

The ceremony was then the occasion to celebrate Orphan's Day, underlining the meritorious activity carried out since 1948 by the National Assistance Organization for Military Orphans of the Carabinieri, which assists the orphans of military personnel of the Carabinieri in their studies. Carabinieri, and which, this year too, donated prizes to some of the young people present.
"The orphans of our deceased colleagues are children of all of us, not just their parents," said the Interregional Commander in his speech. "The National Assistance Organization for Military Orphans of the Carabinieri is the most tangible manifestation of the generosity of all members of the Carabinieri and the spirit of solidarity that animates the Institution."
