Naples – He didn't hesitate for a moment. Even though he wasn't wearing a uniform, his instinct to protect the vulnerable prevailed. A Penitentiary Police inspector serving at Poggioreale prison ended up in the hospital after being the victim of a brutal attack in the heart of Naples, "guilty" of foiling a robbery involving an elderly woman.
The events unfolded in a few frantic minutes. The inspector, off duty, noticed two foreign men deftly removing the wallet and cell phone from the backpack of an elderly woman, who was unaware of what was happening.
Without wasting any time, the policeman identified himself and attempted to stop the criminal action.
The two criminals immediately fled, but the inspector did not give up: he chased them through the crowd, managing to recover the cell phone that the thieves, in their rush, had dropped on the ground.
The assault with the child in her arms
It was at this point that the story took on even more disturbing overtones. As the officer recovered the stolen goods, a third person approached. The man, incredibly holding a child in his arms, arrogantly demanded the return of the recently recovered phone.
When the inspector refused, intending to proceed according to the law, the situation escalated. The man, oblivious to the presence of the minor, threatened the officer and attacked him with a barrage of kicks and punches. The attacker's wife also joined in the violence, attacking the officer and participating in the beating.
Only the timely intervention of a nearby State Police patrol prevented the worst, allowing the perpetrators to be apprehended. The inspector suffered a serious injury: taken to the hospital, he was diagnosed with multiple blunt trauma and a shoulder injury.
The condemnation of the Sappe
Marianna Argenio, deputy regional secretary of the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police (SAPPE), intervened in the incident, reconstructing the details of the attack and expressing solidarity with her colleague.
Donato Capece, secretary general of the SAPPE, also had a harsh comment, emphasizing the value of the person even before the officer: "The work of the Penitentiary Police is once again a source of pride for the entire city.
The men and women of the Poggioreale command manage to combine personal appearance with the duties of their uniform. This episode demonstrates their immense professionalism and competence, even off-duty, in protecting a defenseless town.
The union thus reiterates the need for greater protection for prison staff, who are increasingly exposed to risks to their safety both inside and outside prison walls.

Wait for them in Poggioreale and you'll get your revenge
Damned
What a shame
Yes good, never give up.
We need a Gestapo in this city, a mass of criminals.
When they arrive in Poggioreale, keep them in a room for a couple of hours and have fun ⚒️
We have no hope
Now why aren't these criminals repatriated? Maybe they're released and continue to commit crimes.
But where did you keep the gun?
This is a very unfortunate incident that makes us reflect on how society is changing. It's truly worrying that a prison officer would be attacked in this way, especially while trying to help an elderly person.
