Naples – A criminal script written and rewritten, but this time the ending was dictated by officers from the Vasto-Arenaccia police station. A record-breaking raid yesterday afternoon on Via Galileo Ferraris brought back to jail a 38-year-old Neapolitan man, a "familiar face" to law enforcement, specializing in car thefts.

The scene, worthy of a detective movie, unfolded under the watchful eyes of the patrol car. The officers, on patrol, noticed a man getting out of a car and approaching a parked vehicle with a determined manner.

No sophisticated disassembly, no waiting: a sharp blow, and the target car's windshield shatters. In an instant, the criminal has slipped into the car, thinking he was operating from the shadows.

But the shadow immediately materialized for him. The police officers arrived on the scene just as the man, unaware, was frantically searching the dashboard and under the seats for valuables. Only then, looking up, did he see the uniforms.

The instinct to flee kicks in, but it's a flash of lightning, nipped in the bud. The officers stop him and, frisking him, seize his "toolkit": a set of burglary tools, ready for any eventuality.

The on-site investigation, however, yields the icing on the cake: the car he had exited, which was supposed to be his getaway vehicle, was itself the loot of a theft.

A double blow for the 38-year-old: on board, the on-board computer had been ripped off and the right front windshield was reduced to splinters, unmistakable signs of a previous successful "heist."

For him, his "working evening" is over. He was arrested for attempted aggravated theft, and was also charged with receiving stolen goods, given that he was traveling in a car that already had a "stamp."
