The incident occurred in the middle of the night, when an individual attempted to force entry to the premises, taking advantage of the darkness and the absence of passersby. What the thief couldn't have known, however, was that the entrepreneur and popular TikTok user had recently equipped his business with a state-of-the-art alarm system, with CCTV cameras capable of operating even in the absence of power thanks to their self-contained batteries.
The social outburst and the appeal
Peppe Di Napoli himself broke the news in a video complaint posted on his social media channels, where it's followed by hundreds of thousands of people. The footage clearly shows the criminal at work, unaware he's being filmed.
"You're a little behind because we're at the forefront of new technologies! Shame on you!" Di Napoli wrote, proudly displaying the effectiveness of his investment.
The recordings are now being examined by investigators to identify the perpetrator. The incident also provided the TikToker with an opportunity to appeal to fellow shopkeepers, who are often victims of similar incidents: "Invest in security; it has become essential to protect our sacrifices." This warning underscores the growing need for businesses to protect themselves from petty crime.
