Naples – A tense afternoon erupted yesterday in Corso Arnaldo Lucci, where State Police arrested a 37-year-old man from Mauritania, known to law enforcement for various crimes.
The man is charged with attempted extortion, aggravated damage, assault, and resisting a public official, in an incident that caused panic among motorists and passersby.
It all started with a report to the Operations Room: a person was vandalizing passing cars, causing traffic chaos. Officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Aid, supported by the Campania Crime Prevention Unit, responded quickly to the scene. Upon arriving, they located the perpetrator in the throes of a fit of rage, screaming and gesticulating uncontrollably.
Subduing the man wasn't easy. After a violent struggle, during which the officers sustained minor injuries, the 37-year-old was restrained and handcuffed. At that moment, an eyewitness approached the officers to recount the preceding incident: shortly before, on Via Brin, while driving his car, he had been approached by a window cleaner.
The man had offered to clean the windshield in exchange for money, but when the driver refused, he reacted by hitting the glass forcefully, causing damage and instilling fear in the victim.
The 37-year-old's fury did not subside even during the transfer to preccintWhile in the patrol car, he continued to struggle, managing to cause further damage to the vehicle. Thanks to the decisive intervention of the police, the incident ended without further consequences for the public.
After the usual formalities, the arrested man was taken to prison to await trial. Investigations are continuing to verify any similar incidents in the neighborhood, with the aim of ensuring greater safety on Neapolitan streets.
