Naples – A touching letter transformed a medical visit into a symbol of empathy and dedication. Imma, a patient at the "Fondazione G. Pascale" National Cancer Institute in Naples, faced a suspected melanoma with fear in her heart.
But meeting Alfonso Amore, medical director and surgeon on Professor Corrado Caracò's staff, changed everything. Rather than a simple consultation, Amore offered her not only expertise, but a humanity that struck a chord.
Determined not to let that message fade into the hospital paperwork, Imma wrote a letter of commendation to the Pascale management. For added security, she sent a copy to the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of Naples and the Province. The result?
During the 40th anniversary ceremony for local surgical and dental graduates, the Order awarded Amore a special plaque. The award celebrates his dedication, expertise, and professionalism in serving patients, at a time that highlights how crucial empathy is in the fight against cancer.
Amore, 56, originally from Torre Annunziata and a member of the Pascale Hospital for 18 years, is a specialist in general surgery and a PhD in regenerative surgery.

Among those in attendance at the ceremony was Maurizio Di Mauro, general manager of the Pascale Hospital. "This award is precious because it comes directly from patients," he said. "It is a testament to the core values of our medical mission.
Every patient treated, every family supported, strengthens a growing professional community, thanks to stories of dedication like Dr. Amore's. Congratulations to him, and to all the healthcare workers at Pascale, whom I proudly manage: they work with passion and tireless professionalism.
In an often-criticized healthcare system, initiatives like this remind us that humanity remains the true antidote to pain. The Pascale, a center of excellence in oncology, continues to stand out not only for its innovation, but also for the human warmth that accompanies its patients through the most difficult journey.
