Eboli – A tragedy that shocked the local community occurred at the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples, where a 35-year-old worker of Moroccan origin died after three days of excruciating pain.
The man, an employee of a horticultural company in the Prato district of Eboli, was the victim of a serious accident at work last Thursday while he was burning plant waste.
According to initial reconstructions, the fire broke out suddenly for reasons yet to be clarified, engulfing the worker in a fiery inferno. He suffered third-degree burns over 80% of his body, a dire medical condition that required immediate intervention.
Rescued by colleagues, he was first taken to Battipaglia hospital and then urgently transferred to the Cardarelli Burns Center, where doctors fought in vain to save his life.

His condition appeared critical from the very beginning, with systemic complications that thwarted all attempts to stabilize him. His death occurred today, leaving an irreparable void in his family and co-workers. The news has sparked deep grief in the town of Salerno, already sensitive to workplace safety issues.
The Carabinieri of the Eboli Company have launched an in-depth investigation to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident. They will examine the company's safety protocols, the equipment used, and testimonies from those present to determine whether there were any regulatory violations or negligence.
The accident refocuses attention on the plight of workplace accidents in Italy, with over 1.000 deaths annually recorded by INAIL in 2024 alone, and raises questions about prevention and training in the agricultural and horticultural sectors.
The Salerno Prosecutor's Office has opened a case of aggravated negligence, pending an autopsy that will clarify further details on the cause of death. Meanwhile, local unions have announced a day of mourning and initiatives to raise awareness about safety measures.

It's truly sad that things like this happen. Workplace safety must be a priority, because there are too many deaths every year. Something must be done to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
