The coffin draped in the Italian flag, the honor guard, the prolonged applause that erupted through the packed church. Naples gathered around the family of Aniello Scarpati, Assistant Chief Coordinator of the State Police, who died during the night between Saturday and Sunday after the patrol car he was operating was struck by an SUV in Torre del Greco.
The solemn funeral of a state servant who for over twenty years combined dedication to his work with a deep faith in his community was held in the ADI Evangelical Church, packed with colleagues and fellow citizens.
The ceremony was attended by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security Prefect Vittorio Pisani, Cardinal Domenico Battaglia, President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca, Prefect Michele di Bari of Naples, and Commander General of the Carabinieri, General CA Salvatore Luongo, as well as numerous civil and military authorities.
“Every time a life is lost while serving the State, it is a collective wound that forces us to reflect,” Minister Piantedosi stated during his speech.

Then he made a promise to Scarpati's family: "Words are of little value," he emphasized, addressing his wife and children, "but the state's presence must be and will be constant and concrete. The recognition expressed today must represent support and a living memory: a nation's strength is built in the service of responsibility and solidarity."
Pastor Raimondo Mennella, of the Evangelical Church of Torre del Greco, also remembered Aniello Scarpati, drawing a human and spiritual profile of him: “Our friend Aniello set a great example for all of us, an example of love for his family, for the Lord, and for his work, which he carried out with passion, faithfulness, and love.”
At the end of the ceremony, Minister Piantedosi and Prefect Pisani went to the hospital to visit Special Agent Ciro Cozzolino, Scarpati's colleague and the only survivor of the tragic accident.

It was a deeply moving and heartfelt moment for everyone. The loss of a public servant always makes us reflect on how difficult their work is. We hope the family can find comfort in this difficult time.
