Naples – It's not just a matter of urban decorum, but a delicate balance between social emergency and regional redevelopment. Yesterday morning, the operational heart of the Third Municipality beat beneath the Piazza Di Vittorio overpass, the scene of yet another coordinated intervention to restore dignity to those living on the margins and livability for its residents.
At dawn, officers from the Local Police's Environmental Investigation and Social Emergencies Unit, supported by social workers, reached the area beneath the viaduct. There, among makeshift shelters and worn blankets, ten homeless people had spent the night.
The institutions' approach was not merely repressive, but also supportive: the dialogue established by social services made it possible to offer a concrete alternative to the cold of the streets. Some of those present accepted immediate transfer to public shelters, ensuring safe shelter from the harsh autumn weather.
Radical cleanup: two tons of waste removed
While assistance was being provided to those affected, the environmental cleanup phase began. A team of workers from Asia (the Environmental Hygiene Services Company) worked for hours to clear the area. The operation's results were impressive: approximately two tons of waste were removed, including bulky materials and hazardous waste that had accumulated over time. The operation concluded with a complete cleanup and sanitization of the area, returning the space to the public.
This is not an isolated incident. The area of the Piazza Di Vittorio overpass had already been cleaned up in previous weeks, a sign that the administration is maintaining close attention to this critical area of the city.

The "Decor Table" strategy
The entire operation is part of the strategy of the Permanent Technical Committee for Urban Decorum, a body strongly supported by the Mayor to overcome the emergency situation. The goal is twofold: on the one hand, to provide decent accommodations for the homeless, and on the other, to ensure that squares and streets are fully usable again.
"Thanks to the task force's planning, these operations are no longer occasional but recurring," they explain at Palazzo San Giacomo. Evidence of this change in pace is visible elsewhere as well.
Alongside the work in Piazza Di Vittorio, teams also returned to work in Piazza Cavour, which has become a constant hub for cleanup. According to the schedule drawn up by the Third Municipality, workers returned this morning to thoroughly clean the paths and flowerbeds, removing all types of debris.
Task force coordinator Ciro Turiello reiterated the group's mission: to continually expand its scope of action. The challenge lies in the synergy between departments, municipal services, municipalities, and participating companies. Teamwork is essential to transform extraordinary interventions into a normal life of cleanliness and social inclusion.
