Naples - The tight controls implemented by the Carabinieri Provincial Command throughout Naples and the surrounding province continue to paint the disturbing outlines of a new organized crime strategy.

It's no longer just well-known faces or criminals who end up in the clutches of justice; increasingly, it's very young and unsuspecting individuals with no criminal record who fill key roles in the chain of illegality, lured by the promise of easy, yet dangerous, profit.

This time, the trend continues, but the target of the crime changes, closely following current events and trends. While the phenomenon had previously been observed in drug trafficking, it has now shifted to the illegal firecracker business, with organized crime proving once again to be a criminal corporation, always ready to respond to market demand, especially in view of the upcoming holidays.

The courier's arrest in Fuorigrotta

The setting is the Fuorigrotta neighborhood, the scene of the latest significant intervention by the Carabinieri of the Rione Traiano station. During a patrol, the officers' attention was drawn to a car traveling along Via Gabriele Rossetti. The driver was a visibly agitated 25-year-old.

The young man's excessive nervousness immediately raised a red flag, prompting the Carabinieri to conduct a more thorough search of the vehicle. Their suspicions became confirmed when they discovered 100 explosive devices hidden under the rear seats.

These were no ordinary fireworks, but unconventional and unapproved pyrotechnic devices, the dreaded "Cobras." The impressive payload exceeded 4 kilograms of net explosive mass, which at that moment was traveling undisturbed among the hundreds of cars in the city traffic, posing an incalculable potential risk.

Explosive awaiting label

The lethal nature and high destructive potential of the material, combined with the lack of labelling and approval, made it essential for the on-site intervention of bomb of the Naples Provincial Command. The fireworks, likely destined for the thriving black market at the end of the year, were secured and seized.

The 25-year-old, formally with no criminal record, was immediately arrested, highlighting once again how organized crime recruits "clean" workers to minimize the risk of severe sentences for its leaders.

The man is now awaiting trial, while law enforcement continues to investigate the supply and distribution chain of these deadly devices.

It's worrying to see how young people are involved in illegal activities, but it's also important to consider that the causes of this phenomenon can be complex and not always their fault. The situation needs to be carefully analyzed.
