Nola - A swift and coordinated action by the State Police put an end to the extortion attempt known as the "return horse" in the Nola area, culminating in the arrest of a 50-year-old Neapolitan man with a criminal record. He is now charged with extortion and resisting arrest.

It all began on Thursday morning, when the victim, a citizen whose car had been stolen in Nola, went to the Flying Squad offices. Not only to report the theft, but also, and more importantly, to disclose the disturbing request he had just received: €3.000 in cash to get his vehicle back.

The officers, including those from the Flying Squad and the Acerra and Nola police stations, immediately put a plan into action.

They found that the blackmailer had contacted the victim, inviting her to come directly to his business for the exchange: money for a car.

The trap and the escape

The officers followed the victim to the meeting place, monitoring his every move remotely. Once the victim handed over the agreed-upon sum to the suspect, the 50-year-old, after calling an accomplice to obtain the exact location of the stolen car, headed with the victim to the parked vehicle.

It was precisely at that crucial moment that the criminal, sensing the discreet but relentless presence of law enforcement, realized he had been unmasked. The man desperately attempted to flee, sparking a brief but frantic foot chase.

Thanks to the officers' composure and quick thinking, the 50-year-old was quickly apprehended and immobilized, not without difficulty. The operation concluded with the suspect's arrest in flagrante delicto, who was brought to justice for the serious crimes he had committed.

The police action was indeed swift, but questions remain about how these crimes can happen so frequently. It's important that more be done to prevent theft and extortion in our society.
