Nola– The escalation of youth violence continues unabated and continues to write a new, troubling chapter. This time, the scene of the attack is Nola, in the Naples hinterland, where last night, in the Vulcano Buono shopping center, yet another act of violence involving two very young people took place.
A 14-year-old boy was stabbed in the leg by a peer armed with a pocketknife.
The reconstruction: argument and stabbing
The evening, which was supposed to be a fun and social event, turned into a nightmare. According to investigators' initial reconstruction, the two teenagers knew each other. A heated argument broke out between them, stemming, as too often happens in these news reports, from "trivial matters." Perhaps a glance too many, a misplaced word.
However, the argument quickly escalated. Words escalated into action: the attacker pulled out a small knife and stabbed the boy in the leg, before presumably fleeing.
The alarm was immediately raised among those present. The injured 14-year-old was rescued and transported to the emergency room of the Nola hospital. Fortunately, the blade did not damage any vital organs. Doctors, after treating him, discharged him with a 10-day prognosis.
Social alarm: a never-ending spiral
The State Police is investigating the incident. Officers are working to reconstruct the exact circumstances and formally identify the perpetrator, who is also a minor.
What remains, beyond the fortunately mild prognosis for the victim, is the bitter photograph of another evening stained with blood.
The Nola incident is part of a now-daily trend of youth violence that erupts in nightlife and social gathering places, such as town squares and shopping malls, as soon as evening falls. A social alarm that highlights growing unease and the disarming ease with which minors walk around armed, ready to turn a trivial argument into a tragedy.
