In Casapulla, in the heart of the province of Caserta, Carabinieri officers from the Environmental Operations Unit shut down a clandestine mechanical workshop, set up in an unlicensed warehouse. The operation was managed by a 48-year-old man from Casagiove, who operated in complete violation of environmental and safety regulations.
During the intervention, the soldiers found several cars under repair and a considerable amount of hazardous waste Piled directly on the floor. Unusable engines soaked in oil, filters saturated with lubricants and diesel fuel, widespread stains of pollutants, and a drum containing approximately 20 liters of used oil composed a clear picture of environmental degradation. The area, already in poor structural condition, had deep cracks, while in the internal manhole, the Carabinieri found traces of a mineral oil spill, potentially capable of reaching the sewer system and contaminating the surrounding area.
The investigation led to the man's arrest on charges of illegal management of hazardous waste and dumping it on land, crimes aggravated by the real risk of environmental damage. The approximately two-hundred-square-meter area, along with the estimated twenty cubic meters of waste, was seized for a total value of approximately eighty thousand euros. The 48-year-old was placed under house arrest by order of the judicial authorities.
