A dawn of handcuffs has shattered the slumber of organized crime, which for months had turned the tranquil valleys of Trentino into its favorite hunting ground. A vast operation by the State Police began in the early hours of this morning, at the request of the Trento Prosecutor's Office, executing 23 precautionary measures against as many individuals.
The raid, codenamed "Black Ice," didn't just target the Alpine capital, but spread like wildfire to several key cities across the peninsula: Rome, Naples, Palermo, and Latina. A criminal network with deep roots in the South had chosen the North as the ideal location to commit predatory crimes and fuel a thriving drug market.
The criminal conspiracy and the trail of crimes
The suspects are held responsible, to varying degrees, for criminal conspiracy aimed at committing serial burglaries and drug dealing. This deadly web of illicit activities is documented in an investigation file containing a total of 201 charges.
The heart of the illegal activity contested by the Trento Prosecutor's Office concerns the impressive series of home raids in Trentino, particularly concentrated between the summer and autumn of 2024. Private homes, often isolated or perceived as less secure, were the gang's favorite target, which operated with disarming methodicalness and speed.

In addition to the 23 arrested, the operation included a total of 35 delegated searches, including the arrest of 12 other people believed to be connected in various ways to the criminal gang's activities.
We are seeking evidence, stolen goods, and any documentation needed to reconstruct the exact organizational structure of what law enforcement considers one of the most structured mobile criminal organizations in recent years.
The investigation, coordinated by the investigating judge and the Trento Public Prosecutor's Office, promises further developments.

This operation by the State Police is very interesting and shows how organized crime can spread. But I wonder whether these measures are truly effective in the long term or just a temporary solution to a larger problem.
