Naples - The Naples City Council has approved the technical and economic feasibility study for a series of extraordinary maintenance projects at the "Felice Scandone" swimming pool, a symbol of the city's sporting scene and the federal center for Italian aquatic disciplines.

The plan, proposed by the Budget Councilor with responsibility for Heritage and the Councilor for Sport and Equal Opportunities, envisages a total investment of €593.500, entirely financed with municipal funds from a previous allocation of the Metropolitan City's Strategic Plan.

The project, drawn up by the Municipality's Sports Building Department, aims to resolve a series of structural issues that have affected the Fuorigrotta facility in recent years: from the restoration of the gym's roof to the repair of leaks in the changing rooms, including the renovation of the load-bearing structures of the emergency stairs and the replacement of the fire doors.

The "Scandone" swimming pool—named after sports journalist Felice Scandone—is one of the most important facilities in the Italian swimming scene. It houses two Olympic-sized pools in separate buildings: the main one, with stands, changing rooms, offices, and utility rooms, and the more recently constructed indoor pool, used for year-round sports.

The facility, managed in collaboration with the Italian Swimming Federation under an agreement signed two years ago, has hosted major international sporting events and continues to be a hub for athletes and sports clubs.

With this new project, the municipal administration aims to ensure the facility's full functionality, improving the quality of the sports offering and the comfort of athletes and users.
An important step – they emphasize at Palazzo San Giacomo – “towards the valorization of the city's sporting heritage and the promotion of sport as a right and opportunity for all.”

The Naples city council's initiative for the Scandone swimming pool is a wonderful one, but I hope the work is completed quickly. The pool is an important place for many athletes and the public.
