It all started with a click. The man, attracted by the favorable offer for a PlayStation 5, contacted the alleged seller. Intrigued by the deal, he didn't hesitate to wire transfer the full sum, €230. After the transfer, however, there was silence. The promised console, as well as the seller, disappeared.
Realizing he had fallen into a trap, the victim filed a complaint. The Carabinieri then launched a detailed investigation, following the money's digital trail through complex computer and banking checks. This screening allowed them to identify the alleged scammer: a 22-year-old resident of Lazio, whose name was already known to law enforcement for similar scams.
The boy was subsequently reported at large to the judicial authorities for fraud. The incident is just the latest in a growing chain of online fraud, a phenomenon affecting an ever-increasing number of users, attracted by unmissable offers that turn out to be lures for easy money.
With this intervention, the Carabinieri reiterate their warning to be vigilant. The recommendations are clear: always be wary of listings with excessively low prices, carefully verify the seller's identity and reputation, and, crucially, always use secure and traceable payment methods offered by the platforms themselves, which can offer protection and the possibility of a refund in the event of a scam. Because in the online marketplace, sometimes the deal of the century is just a sham.

It's truly strange how certain sellers can scam so easily. I think there should be more controls on online marketplaces to prevent these things from happening. People deserve to be protected.
