Yet another night of terror in Naples bears the hallmark of a gang of thieves who attempted to rob the Galluccio tobacco shop, in the heart of Poggioreale. A swift and decisive attack, carried out in the silence of the early morning, when the group attempted to break into the shop's main entrance, even ignoring the smoke alarm that immediately went off. What changed the outcome of the robbery wasn't technology, but the composure and quick thinking of the owners, who live on the upper floor. Upon realizing what was happening, they scared the criminals away by shouting and attracting attention.
The incident was made public by the shopkeepers' daughter, who told the story to the Green-Left Alliance MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli. “They didn't manage to take anything, but they did a lot of damage.”, he explained, showing the forced shutter and the signs of the break-in. Borrelli doesn't mince his words in commenting on yet another episode that fuels the widespread feeling of insecurity in the city's neighborhoods.

It's truly unacceptable that similar incidents continue to occur in Naples. People have the right to live without fear, and the authorities should do more to ensure their safety. Attacks like these can't happen every night.
