The late morning quiet in Pompeii was interrupted by a sudden chase, which began when police officers noticed a car parked illegally along Via Unità d'Italia.
A 41-year-old local man was driving, apparently waiting, but the situation changed when the officers asked for his identification. The man accelerated sharply, attempting to evade control and fleeing the scene, endangering traffic.
Patrols immediately began tracking him, while the driver, attempting to disappear, engaged in reckless and dangerous maneuvers. The car ended on Via Lepanto, where officers managed to stop him after a struggle that required physical intervention to restrain him.
Once apprehended, the man was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a public official. The incident confirms the intensification of local patrols and law enforcement's focus on behavior that could endanger citizens and businesses.
