Naples – A suspicious scene on a residential street, a reckless escape, and an assault on officers. This is the climax of a State Police raid in the Posillipo neighborhood, which dismantled a gang dedicated to theft of construction materials. The surprise finale unfolded 24 hours apart and in two different municipalities.
The Posillipo Police Station's operation unfolded in two stages. Last Thursday, on Via Annibale Caccavello, the watchful eyes of officers on prevention duty were drawn to a car parked next to a van used to transport construction equipment. At that very moment, two men were caught red-handed, frantically trying to load work materials into the vehicle.
The escape and the attack
At the sight of the uniforms, panic ensued. The two, desperate to escape, didn't hesitate to attack a police officer. Taking advantage of the turmoil, the 40-year-old managed to get back into the car and made a reckless escape toward Piazza Vanvitelli. His accomplice, a 55-year-old, instead opted for escape routes on foot, managing to escape into the urban area.
The 40-year-old was arrested after the chase
The patrol car didn't give up. Thanks also to the timely support of a patrol from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, the hunt for the car continued unabated. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was intercepted and stopped on Via GA Campano, not without difficulty. The 40-year-old, a Neapolitan with a criminal record, was arrested.
After searching the vehicle, the officers discovered the loot: not only the recently stolen construction materials, but also specific burglary tools and other materials of dubious origin, leading to charges of receiving stolen goods.
The accomplice was arrested at a hotel in Villaricca.
The following night, Friday, the whole story unravels. The police, following up on their investigation, tracked down the second man, the 55-year-old accomplice who fled on foot. The man, also from Naples and with a history of trouble with the law, was located and arrested in a hotel in Villaricca. He was taken into custody by the Judicial Police on charges of improper robbery and receiving stolen goods.
The judicial authorities, confirming the arrest, considered the serious evidence of guilt and ordered him to be held in pre-trial detention. The 40-year-old, however, was immediately arrested.
