Qualiano - An afternoon of sport and then violence erupted yesterday, Tuesday, November 17, on the pitch at the "Santo Stefano" Municipal Stadium on Via Giovanni Falcone in Qualiano. At the end of the Under-19 championship soccer match between the local team, Rangers Qualiano 1998, and the Posillipo Calcio U19 Academy, tension escalated into a physical assault on the match referee.
The incident occurred around 18:00 PM, moments after the final whistle. The perpetrator was a young player, just seventeen years old, from the visiting team. The minor lunged at the referee, a nineteen-year-old boy, striking him with a violent punch in the left eye.
Law enforcement intervened immediately. Carabinieri officers from the Giugliano in Campania Company's mobile radio unit, along with local police officers, promptly arrived on the scene to manage the delicate situation. The primary objective was to restore order and ensure the safety of everyone present.
Law enforcement officers carefully managed the departure of the visiting team and only subsequently escorted the referee from the pitch. Despite the high tension, the joint intervention prevented further public order incidents from arising.
From initial investigations and investigations, the punch was the only reported act of violence. The young referee, shocked by the attack, has reserved the right to file a complaint against the seventeen-year-old.
The referee's formal decision will be crucial to the possible initiation of criminal proceedings against the attacker. The incident highlights the need for greater supervision and sports education, even in youth categories.
