Naples – An evening of surprise checks hit the heart of the Spanish Quarter nightlife on Friday evening. The operation, coordinated by the Naples Police Headquarters, involved State Police officers from the Montecalvario, San Giovanni-Barra, and Poggioreale police stations, supported by Guardia di Finanza soldiers and technical staff from the ASL NA1 Centro.
The stated goal was to ensure safety and legality in one of the city's most vibrant nightlife areas, with checks ranging from public safety to food hygiene.
The control activity produced significant numbers:
38 people identified, a figure that takes on greater weight considering that 9 of them already had police records.
2 vehicles checked, with the administrative seizure of one of them.
Two violations of the Highway Code were contested, for lack of registration documents and for practicing the profession of taxi driver without authorization.
Premises under scrutiny: fines and suspensions
But it was on the commercial front that the operation saw the most impactful interventions. The 11 businesses inspected revealed a picture of widespread irregularities.
Industry operators were charged with numerous non-compliances, particularly regarding food safety and hygiene (HACCP). Administrative fines exceeded €6.000, €6.333 to be precise.
In five cases, the fines related to the classic issue of occupation of public land. But the most serious measure was imposed on one establishment, forced to suspend operations due to the precarious sanitary conditions found.
The seizure of bread
A peculiar seizure concluded the evening of checks: 15 kg of bread were seized because it lacked traceability requirements and had been stored in a manner that did not comply with regulations. This incident, beyond its economic value, symbolizes the attention paid to the entire food supply chain, from street to table, and to those commercial "ghosts" that can lurk even in an everyday food.
