The trial against the Contini clan branch responsible for the brutal kidnapping that took place in the autumn of 2024 is drawing to a close with a request for an exemplary sentence.

In the courtroom, the atmosphere became icy when the public prosecutor Alessandra Converso of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate he called for an iron fist against the boss Nicola Rullo, known as “'o nfamone”, and his followers.

The indictment left no room for respite: ten convictions totaling 150 years in prison, a veritable judicial blow aimed at decapitating the leaders of the Vasto-Arenaccia gang.

The indictment and the "iron fist"

The prosecution meticulously reconstructed the defendants' responsibilities, requesting the maximum sentence—20 years in prison each—for the instigators and organizers of the kidnapping. There were no reductions for those who, according to the DDA, planned and actively participated in the kidnapping of entrepreneurs Pietro and Carlo Gagliotta.

The trial, which involves leading figures in Neapolitan organized crime, will resume in December with oral arguments from the large defense team.

The Nightmare of 2024: Trap and Torture

At the heart of the trial remains the dramatic events of September 26 and 27, 2024. It all stemmed from an alleged debt of €375 that the gang claimed to be collecting on behalf of Marcello Madonna. The trap was sprung in an apartment on Via Nuova del Campo, in Poggioreale: Pietro Gagliotta was lured in, robbed, and immediately subjected to a brutal beating.

The violence reached its peak with the arrival of the boss Nicholas RollArmed with a hammer and cobblestone, the boss allegedly attacked the victim, threatening to kill him. The horror was further compounded when his father, Carlo Gagliotta, arrived on the scene and was also struck in the chest with a hammer.

According to the reconstruction, inside the apartment—owned by Assunta Giuliani—there were several associates, including Gabriele Esposito, Salvatore Pisco, and Armando Reginella, while other accomplices acted as lookouts.

The epilogue at Castel Volturno

After hours of agony, the victims, reduced to bloody masks, were transferred to Castel Volturno, to the Parco Fontana Bleu complex, for quick medical treatment before being released. The nightmare ended only at 1:30 a.m. in front of the emergency room of the Fatebenefratelli hospital, where the two businessmen were dropped off by their kidnappers. A story that today, a year later, is taking its toll on their alleged tormentors.
