A movie-like scene in the heart of Naples. An ordinary morning of frenzy along Corso Umberto quickly turned into a criminal act, foiled only by the swift intervention of law enforcement.

It was just after 10 a.m. when a man violently snatched a woman's cell phone and made a desperate escape in the direction of Via Soprammuro, pushing his way through passersby.

The scene, however, did not escape the attention of a patrol from the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station that was passing through the area.

The officers immediately started chasing the fugitive.

The rush lasted a few frantic minutes, and was brought to a close thanks to the timely assistance of a local police patrol. The man was caught and stopped, but not without difficulty: a violent struggle ensued, after which the robber was finally subdued.

A search at the scene found him in possession of not only the cell phone recently stolen from the victim, but also a switchblade. The man, a 48-year-old Algerian national with an illegal residence, was arrested on charges of robbery, assault, and resisting a public official. He was also charged with illegal possession of a weapon. The operation is part of the extraordinary territorial control operations implemented by the Police Headquarters to combat widespread crime.

It's a situation that makes us reflect on the safety of our streets, but also on the fact that law enforcement is doing a good job in stopping these criminals. I hope there will be more attention and enforcement in the future.
