It was a lively evening yesterday on Via Gianturco, in the heart of the city, where an off-duty officer from the Office of General Prevention and Public Aid successfully arrested a robber caught red-handed. A 43-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement, was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, assault, and resisting a public officer.

According to the reconstruction, the man had just snatched a phone from a woman, then quickly jumped into a car driven by an accomplice. The victim, in a desperate attempt to retrieve the phone, reached into the passenger compartment, getting stuck in the door. The vehicle sped off, dragging her for several meters along the asphalt, causing her to fall heavily to the ground.

The police officer noticed the scene and didn't hesitate to intervene. After alerting the Operations Room, he gave chase to the robbers' car. The robbers' escape was halted shortly thereafter, on Via Cristofaro Marino, where city traffic dramatically slowed the vehicle.

At that point, the officer got out of his car and confronted the driver. A struggle ensued, resulting in the man's arrest. His accomplice, however, managed to flee on foot and disappear without a trace. The woman, who was rescued, sustained injuries and was taken to medical care. The search is ongoing to locate the second man involved.
