It operated as if nothing had happened, despite a municipal ordinance requiring its closure for safety reasons. And while the gates remained open, wastewater from the Vico Equense recycling center flowed directly into the Ponticello stream, without any treatment.
This is what the Coast Guard of Castellammare di Stabia and the Guardia di Finanza of the Naval Station of Naples discovered, having this morning carried out the preventive seizure of the municipal plant located in Massaquano, in the heart of the Sorrento peninsula.
The measure, issued by the investigating judge of the Torre Annunziata Court at the request of the Oplonti Public Prosecutor's Office, concerns serious environmental violations: illegal discharge of waste water, uncontrolled storage of waste on the ground and failure to comply with an interdictory order.

Investigators have targeted Super Eco srl, a company based in Cassino (Frosinone), which provides urban waste collection services for the Municipality of Vico Equense. According to the investigation, conducted in collaboration with technicians from the Integrated Water Service of the Gori company, the recycling center continued to operate despite a landslide that damaged the nearby bed of the Ponticello stream and compromised two tanks in the treatment system.
During their inspections, the judicial police found traces of leachate in the yard and bins full of waste, piled up irregularly. Technical checks, conducted by spraying an eco-friendly tracer, also confirmed that the wastewater route did not correspond to that indicated in the environmental permit. Instead of flowing into the public sewer system, the wastewater was being illegally discharged into the waterway.
This scenario, according to investigators, outlines unlawful and dangerous waste management, with potential repercussions for the environment and public health. The Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office is continuing its investigation to determine any further responsibilities.
