SALERNO – A scene of brutal violence in the heart of the historic center. A man of Sri Lankan origin was arrested by the State Police on charges of domestic violence after attacking his wife in the street, hitting her with a crutch, then a hammer, and finally attempting to strangle her.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon, when several people reported a violent argument between a married couple to the emergency number. Officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue of the Police Headquarters immediately responded to the scene. Salerno, who found the woman in an evident state of shock and with injuries to her face and body.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the man apparently lost control during an argument, escalating the fight into a full-blown murder attempt. After furiously striking her, he attempted to wrap his hands around her neck, but was stopped just in time by the police, who subdued him and took him to the police station.
The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition, although serious, is not life-threatening. The attacker is currently under arrest and at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
