San Nicola La Strada – During the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, Carabinieri officers from the Caserta Mobile Radio Section arrested a 27-year-old Gambian man legally residing in Italy for possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
The operation began near the municipal park in Largo Rotonda, where officers observed the young man acting suspiciously. Upon seeing the Carabinieri, the man attempted to quickly flee, sparking a brief chase. When they caught up with him shortly thereafter, he resisted, pushing and shoving, but was quickly subdued and restrained.
A subsequent personal search yielded approximately 7,5 grams of hashish and €290 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing. The material was seized, and the young man was taken to the police station, where he was held in a holding cell pending trial.
The operation is part of ongoing checks to combat drug dealing in the area. The Carabinieri reiterate their ongoing commitment to preventing and suppressing drug-related crimes, especially in areas frequented by young people.

The young man's arrest is a sobering fact about the drug situation in Italy. Even if he was legal, this doesn't justify his illegal activity. It's important that law enforcement continue to carry out checks.
