San Paolo Belsito – Yet another domestic argument erupted into a bloody, mad tragedy that shocked the small community of San Paolo Belsito, in the province of Naples.
Vincenzo Riccardi, 25, killed his younger sister, Noemi Riccardi, just 23, by stabbing her repeatedly with a kitchen knife.
The dynamics and the shocking confession
The murder took place in an apartment on Via San Paolo Belsito, where the two unemployed brothers lived with their mother. The mother was away for work at the time of the crime. According to investigators' reconstruction, the two boys began arguing, a habit that apparently often saw them engaged in heated arguments.
This time, however, the argument took a fatal turn: Vincenzo grabbed a knife and lunged at Noemi, stabbing her at least six or seven times in various parts of her body. The autopsy, ordered by the Nola Prosecutor's Office, will determine the exact number of wounds.
What made the act even more horrifying was the boy's immediate aftermath. With icy coldness, Vincenzo grabbed his cell phone and called his absent mother, showing her Noemi's lifeless body via video call.
The attacker then contacted the Carabinieri and confessed to the murder: "I stabbed my sister to death. Come, I couldn't take it anymore. It was driving me mad," he reportedly told the officers.
Treated in a mental health center
When the officers arrived, the 25-year-old expressed his exasperation with his sister and justified his actions by calling them a "bout of madness." A crucial fact that emerged from the investigation was that both Vincenzo and Noemi were being treated at a mental health center in Nola, a city where they had moved some time ago.
Law enforcement, coordinated by the local prosecutor, Antonella Vitagliano, is investigating to reconstruct the motive and the family background. Although no formal charges have been filed, testimonies from neighbors paint a picture of high tension.
"A Death Foretold": The Argument That Started the Night Before
The neighbors, heard by the Carabinieri Reports and media outlets have reported frequent and heated arguments in the building. Some residents have been forthright in describing the tragedy, calling it a "death foretold" given the constant conflict between the two brothers. According to a witness, the argument had begun the night before the murder.
Vincenzo Riccardi was taken to the Carabinieri headquarters for further investigation. The murder weapon, still stained with blood, was found in the apartment. The young age of the two brothers and the tragic outcome have caused profound shock in the town.
