A frightening afternoon in the parking lot of a supermarket on Via Tenente Puoti, in Santa Maria a Vico, ended with the arrest of a 46-year-old man already known to law enforcement. The man allegedly approached his ex-wife while she was in her car, attempted to open the door, and violently struck her, accompanying the attack with explicit threats.
The frightened woman managed to leave and reach the local Carabinieri station to ask for protection, while her ex-husband followed her a short distance away. The officers arrested the 46-year-old and, during a search of his person and vehicle, found a knife in his purse and a second inside the car. The weapons were seized and made available to the Crime Evidence Office.
The man was arrested almost red-handed on charges of threats and illegal possession of a weapon and, after the formalities, was placed under house arrest by order of the judicial authorities. The incident refocuses attention on the issue of domestic violence, a crisis that continues to occur even in everyday, crowded settings, like a simple supermarket parking lot.

It's truly worrying that incidents like this continue to happen. Violence against women is a serious problem and must not be ignored. We hope there are more protective measures in place for those at risk.
