In Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the morning was rocked by a rapid series of crimes that put residents and business owners on high alert. A 22-year-old homeless Algerian man was arrested by the Carabinieri after first committing a robbery involving a courier and then a fishmonger's shop, all within a matter of minutes.
According to the reconstruction, the young man began his raid by approaching a delivery van: a single moment of distraction from the employee was enough for him to steal an iPhone 16 Pro and walk away without arousing suspicion. A few meters further on, however, he upped the ante even further. Entering a local fishmonger's shop, he allegedly stole the owner's wallet containing €2.000 in cash.
The shopkeeper, noticing the theft, attempted to stop him, but the 22-year-old responded by spraying him in the face with pepper spray to ensure his escape. However, the Carabinieri of the Mobile Radio Unit intervened immediately, responding to a quick alert to 112. The patrol tracked him down nearby, recovering both the phone and the stolen money. The stolen goods were returned to the owners, while the young man was arrested pending a summary trial, which will clarify a case that has brought the issue of safety in commercial areas back to the forefront.

The article is interesting, but many details remain unclear, such as why the young man committed these crimes. It would also be helpful to know if there are more effective security measures in fishmongers and other shops.
