One year and eight months of imprisonment without suspension. This is the sentence imposed today by the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere on Amedeo Di Maro, the 50-year-old Samaritan man found responsible for intentionally causing serious bodily harm to Professor Giuseppe Morelli, vice principal of the Gallozzi Middle School.
The sentence, issued by Dr. Alessandra Vona after two hours of deliberation, was reported by the Rai program A day in the Magistrates Court.
The events date back over two years, when Di Maro stormed the school where his daughter was attending. In the hall, crowded with protesting parents, the man mistook Morelli for another teacher and violently attacked him in the face. The injuries, which heal in 80 days, led to serious complications in the victim's eye.

In court, the defense dismissed the blows as a harmless "slap." This theory was demolished by prosecutor Armando Bosso and civil plaintiff lawyer Gaetano Crisileo, who reconstructed the incident through witness statements and medical certificates. During his closing argument, the prosecutor emphasized how Di Maro's statements were in clear contradiction with the evidence gathered.
A key witness in the trial was Professor Antonio Letizia, who was present at the scene. He told the judge that he had seen Di Maro repeatedly punch Morelli in the face, definitively disproving the defendant's version of events. The aggravating circumstance of his status as a public official, due to his dual role as teacher and vice principal, played a role in determining the sentence.
The complaint filed by Professor Morelli, assisted by lawyers Gaetano and Raffaele Crisileo, triggered the investigation that led to the identification of the attacker. Today, the conviction excludes any possibility of suspension and opens the way to compensation for damages.
