Caserta – A disconcerting scene was encountered by the Carabinieri of the NAS of Caserta during a targeted food safety check.
The military discovered and dismantled a veritable illegal wholesale "central," a phantom business that marketed foods of dubious origin, potentially very dangerous to consumers' health.
The warehouse nightmare: eggs and oil next to auto parts
The NAS operation revealed a reality beyond belief. The entire operation was conducted within a dilapidated warehouse, lacking any health or structural permits, located in none other than the owner's private home.
This is where investigators found the worst: the food intended for sale was stored in conditions of absolute promiscuity with material at extremely high risk of contamination.
Eggs, honey, and oil were stored literally next to car tires, bottles of motor oil, and other mechanical equipment, in an environment characterized by severe and widespread sanitation deficiencies. A lethal mix that could have had dire consequences for unsuspecting buyers.
A completely illegal supply chain
But the illegality didn't stop at storage.

At the end of the raid, the NAS Carabinieri placed under administrative seizure the entire consignment of goods found in the warehouse, all of which lacked the necessary traceability to certify their origin. Specifically, the following were sealed:
Approximately 1.600 eggs
11 kg of honey
350 liters of oil
The health authority, acting at the military's request, ordered the immediate suspension of operations due to the complete lack of hygiene, structural, and authorization requirements. The total value of the closed business was estimated at approximately €100.000.
In addition to closure, the owner received a significant penalty: administrative fines totaling €12.500. Investigations are ongoing to identify the supply channels and end customers of this phantom business.
