Naples - Justice has finally handed down its bill, albeit after some time. Maurizio Abbagnara, a 48-year-old from the neighborhood, ended his time of freedom yesterday with the arrival of the Carabinieri at his home on the outskirts of Ponticelli.
The Carabinieri officers knocked on his door not for a new crime, but to execute a definitive arrest warrant issued by the Naples Attorney General's Office. The charge that sent him straight to Poggioreale prison, where he was transferred after the usual formalities, is a historic one for Neapolitan crimes: smuggling foreign-manufactured tobacco.
The blitz in the summer of 2024
The restrictive measure that brought him back to prison is in fact the judicial tail end of an investigative coup carried out in the summer of 2024.

It wasn't just any old box: inside, the police found and seized a massive shipment: nearly a ton of "blondes." A river of cigarettes that, according to the investigations at the time, was ready to flood the historic hubs of illegal trafficking: Forcella and Borgo Sant'Antonio Abate, traditional hubs managed by specialists in the sector.
Despite the gravity of the events and the significant seizure, Abbagnara's detention on that occasion was short-lived. The 48-year-old was soon released, awaiting final judgment. That release ended yesterday morning, when the Carabinieri closed the loop.

The article talks about a man who was arrested for tobacco smuggling. It's strange how justice sometimes takes so long to arrive. We hope this situation can be resolved in the best way possible for everyone.
