Naples – Local police and ASIA inspectors are cracking down on urban decay in the heart of Naples. The operation, aimed at protecting the decorum of the areas most frequented by residents and tourists, has revealed a worrying pattern of non-compliance with waste sorting regulations by numerous businesses and accommodations.
The raid took place along key thoroughfares such as Via Speranzella, Via Montecalvario, Via Toledo, Via Ponte di Tappia, and the Piazza Cavour area. Officers from the Avvocata task force, supported by ASIA (the municipal sanitation agency) inspectors, found 12 violations in a short time.
Violations: from bags left out of hours to "wild" cartloads
The most common violations, which contribute to the creation of open-air micro-landfills and an unpleasant image of the city, were:
Displaying bags outside of containers and at unauthorized times.

Incorrect waste separation, undermining recycling efforts.
Placing trolleys outside the premises on days or at times not permitted by municipal regulations.
In addition to the violations detected at businesses, the patrol led to a timely intervention in Piazza Cavour, where officers stopped and immediately fined a man caught red-handed illegally dumping various types of waste, including glass, plastic, and even small fragments of construction waste. The material was promptly removed by waste management workers.
The joint efforts of the Local Police and ASIA—which relies on valuable collaboration with environmental operators—reaffirm the Command's hard line. The focus remains on the decorum of public spaces, with the aim of combating incivility through constant and targeted surveillance and crime prevention.
