In the past few hours, a 19-year-old Roma man was arrested in Giugliano in Campania. He was first spotted by Italian Army soldiers involved in Operation "Land of Fires." The patrol, passing near the Roma camp on Via Carrafiello, noticed the young man moving suspiciously around the surrounding land.
The incident was immediately reported to the Forestry Region Control Room. Carabinieri Campania, the nerve center that consolidates reports, information flows, and requests for assistance for the provinces of Naples and Caserta.

The operations room sent a real-time call to the Carabinieri of the 10th Campania Regiment, who are engaged in 24-hour environmental protection operations. When the officers arrived on the scene, the 19-year-old was busy spilling used engine oil directly onto the grass, contaminating the soil and endangering the ecosystem and biodiversity.
The entire operation was monitored from above by the Control Room, which followed every step until the young man was arrested. He was charged with the illegal management and dumping of hazardous waste.
This episode demonstrates how the new joint effort—the Army, Carabinieri, and the Technology Coordination Unit—is consolidating its effectiveness in stemming a criminal phenomenon that has ravaged the region for years.

It's interesting to see how law enforcement is working to combat pollution. However, many questions remain about how effective these interventions are and what the long-term results will be for the local community.
