The Municipal Police conducted a late-night raid: two reports were filed and four people were identified. Stolen goods were recovered. The phenomenon has resurfaced following reports from residents.
Rummaging through garbage bags for items to resell or reuse has become a resurfacing problem on the streets of Salerno.
During the night between Thursday and Friday, the Municipal Police's Environmental Operations Unit conducted a targeted operation that resulted in the filing of reports against two people and the identification of two others, who were taken to the police station for further investigation.
The operation also seized materials previously stolen from recycling bags, destined for collection by Salerno Pulita. Officers caught the perpetrators systematically opening bags left on the street by residents, searching for valuable or resalable items.
(h3)The return of a phenomenon already known
The Municipal Police's operation is no accident. In recent weeks, reports had increased from residents, who had noticed a resurgence of the phenomenon in various areas of the city. The most affected neighborhoods are Carmine, Torrione, and Mercatello, where bags are regularly tampered with before sanitation workers arrive.
The nighttime raid is part of a broader control plan aimed at ensuring safety and urban decorum. The authorities aim to combat not only damage to waste sorting but also potential illegal trafficking of stolen materials.
The Municipal Police announced that they will continue to carry out checks in the most sensitive areas, urging citizens to continue reporting suspicious incidents to protect the urban environment and ensure proper waste management.
