Torre del Greco is preparing to bid farewell to Aniello Scarpati, the 47-year-old police officer who died last night in a tragic car accident on Viale Europa.
On the day of the funeral, the city administration will declare a day of mourning: this was decided by Mayor Luigi Mennella, who this morning called an urgent meeting at the Palazzo Baronale with the commander of the municipal police Gennaro Russo, Deputy Mayor Michele Polese, and the president of the city council Gaetano Frulio.
The meeting was also attended by Loredana Raia, Vice President of the Campania Regional Council, representing the Region.

"On behalf of the administration and the entire city," Mayor Mennella declared, "we wanted to express our solidarity with Director Antonella Palumbo and all the men and women of the State Police who work every day to ensure the safety of citizens. We are deeply shocked by this tragedy and our hearts go out to the wife and three children of the missing officer."
The mayor added that the Municipality is "also monitoring the condition of the other officer involved with concern, hoping for a rapid improvement."
Meanwhile, the entire Torre del Greco community is preparing to pay homage to a public servant known and respected by colleagues and citizens alike for his dedication to his work and his daily commitment to serving the community.
