Avellino – He chose not to hide behind the right to remain silent, the only one in an investigation involving 17 people. Saxon, the last of the suspects to be heard in the proceedings regarding the alleged massive Ecobonus scam and the buying and selling of construction loans, clarified his position point by point before the preliminary investigations judge of the Avellino Court.
The wait ended yesterday morning, marking the conclusion of the interrogation phase in an investigation that has put a segment of the industry's professional and entrepreneurial system under siege.
The choice of collaboration
While all the other suspects chose to exercise their right to remain silent, Sassone, assisted by criminal defense attorney Domenico Iodice, took the opposite approach: full cooperation with the judiciary. To appear before the investigating judge, he traveled extensively, arriving from Modena, where he lives and works. His defense attorney emphasizes this gesture as evidence of "maximum cooperation and respect for the institutions."
"I am a regular intermediary"
During the hearing, which lasted several hours, Sassone reconstructed his role before the magistrate. He described himself as a business consultant and intermediary, specifying that he had always operated "in a regular and transparent manner," within a social and professional context that characterized him as a perfectly integrated citizen with solid employment stability.
The lawyer's defense: "No precautionary measures."
During the hearing, attorney Iodice presented his arguments for dismissing the client's case, or at least declaring that the grounds for any precautionary measures were nonexistent. The reasons, explained to the investigating judge, were clear:

No danger of escape: The spontaneous presentation from Modena is proof of this.
No risk of recurrence: Sassone ceased consulting activity over a year and a half ago.
Not recent events: The contested conduct dates back to September 2024, and therefore the current nature of the danger would be lacking.
Investigation concluded: All evidence has now been acquired, thus excluding any concrete risk of tampering with the evidence.
With Sassone's hearing, the first round of questioning concludes. The court now passes to the Prosecutor's Office, which will have to decide whether to request indictments for all the suspects or dismiss some cases. Sassone's defense appears to be the most aggressive, based on a full willingness to engage with the justice system.

It's interesting that Mario Sassone has chosen not to remain silent, but it's also strange that the other suspects prefer not to speak. There are many points to clarify in this case, and precautionary measures seem a complicated issue.
