A young man from Casalmaggiore paid €900 for three tickets he never received. The Carabinieri tracked down the alleged perpetrators thanks to an investigation into the money flows and the phone numbers used in the scam.

Casalmaggiore (CR), November 5, 2025 – He thought he'd found a chance to attend a famous singer's concert, but he found himself the victim of a skillfully orchestrated online scam under false pretenses. Two people, aged 35 and 29, residing in the province of Caserta, ended up in trouble after being reported by the Carabinieri of the Casalmaggiore station for aggravated online fraud.

The promise of tickets and the payment "in installments" of the scam

The incident dates back to last May, when a man from Casalmaggiore joined a messaging group dedicated to buying and selling concert tickets. There, he met a supposed seller who offered him three tickets to a highly anticipated show by a well-known artist.

Convinced of the offer's legitimacy, the victim made an initial transfer of €375, receiving confirmation of the transaction and a promise that the tickets would be sent. Then, using the excuse of a supposed "technical issue" with the ticket issuance, the scammer asked for additional sums, claiming it was necessary to cover additional expenses and unlock the reservation.

In an attempt not to miss the opportunity, the buyer sent further bank transfers, reaching a total of 900 euros – but without receiving anything in return.

A web of bank transfers and false justifications

The scam became more complex when the fake seller convinced the victim to provide him with her Postepay card details, claiming he wanted to "refund" part of the expense.

In reality, bank transfers from unknown people had begun to flow onto the card, which the scammer then asked to be transferred to other current accounts, justifying the money transfers as "debts" or "private agreements."

It was precisely this suspicious mechanism that raised the alarm: contacted by some of those senders, the buyer discovered that they too had been defrauded in the same way.

Carabinieri investigations: two reported

The victim then contacted the Carabinieri in Casalmaggiore, filing a complaint. Investigators, through a careful analysis of the money flows, IBANs, and phone numbers used, were able to trace the two alleged perpetrators of the scam, both from Campania.

The two were reported to the Judicial Authorities for aggravated online fraud and complicity in the crime.

The appeal to prudence

Law enforcement officials are renewing their call for caution when buying and selling online: be wary of overly advantageous offers, always verify the sellers' identities, and use traceable and secure payment platforms.

As the Carabinieri (Italian Carabinieri) point out, scams involving event and concert tickets are on the rise, fueled by the popularity of social media and messaging apps. "Behind the apparent simplicity of a transaction," investigators emphasize, "can hide a well-organized scam. Caution remains the first line of defense."

This article is very interesting, but I wonder how people continue to fall into similar traps. They should be more careful and not trust just anyone online. Security is important.
