Villa Literno – A disturbing scene of environmental degradation and widespread lawlessness emerged this afternoon in Villa Literno, in the heart of the Caserta province. Carabinieri from the local station discovered and seized a vast building complex of over 3.000 square meters, which turned out to be a veritable "ecological bomb" built on illegal construction.
The operation, conducted following thorough investigations of the area, brought to light a gravely dangerous situation, where special and hazardous waste was being illegally stored just meters from residential buildings.
The double face of illegality: poisons and houses
Upon the arrival of the military, the property – belonging to a woman born in 1954 from Trentola Ducenta (CE) – was divided into two distinct buildings.
The first building was effectively an illegal waste dump. Inside two dilapidated warehouses, the Carabinieri found a significant quantity of hazardous industrial waste: drums containing chemical solvents and resins, typical materials used in auto body repair shops, abandoned without any safety measures or disposal protocols.

The pollution didn't stop at the warehouses: a Fiat Iveco box van, also owned by the woman and parked in the area, had also been turned into a container for waste materials.
The most shocking discovery, however, occurred in the second building. Here, the illegality took on a different, but no less serious, aspect: the structure housed two complete apartments, regularly occupied by two families. The families therefore lived in direct contact with the poisons stored just steps away, in a residential context lacking any certificate of occupancy or authorization.
The intervention and the complaints
The Carabinieri's intervention confirmed that the entire complex, from the foundations of the warehouses to the roofs of the residential units, had been built completely without permits. This was a large-scale illegal construction operation, aggravated by the illegal management of hazardous waste.
The entire area was immediately placed under criminal seizure. Following the investigation, two individuals were reported at large and will face charges of environmental crimes and illegal construction: the landowner and a man born in 1982, originally from Melito di Napoli, who was also involved in the management of the site.
