Benevento – A flurry of checks by the Guardia di Finanza has brought down the house of cards of 55 "cheats" in the Benevento area regarding the Citizen's Income and Inclusion Allowance.
Since the beginning of 2025, financiers from the Benevento Group and the Montesarchio and Solopaca branches have scrutinized hundreds of accounts, uncovering a gap of over €560.000 in unduly received public contributions.
Fake tax returns, omissions of asset changes, and false documents: these are the main tricks used by the 55 individuals reported to circumvent the legal requirements. In some cases, these involved fabricated self-certifications, while in others, failure to disclose new income or cohabitants would have resulted in the loss of their entitlement to benefits.
Following investigations coordinated by the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office, the provincial INPS has already ordered the immediate revocation of the benefits and initiated recovery proceedings for the amounts paid. The 55 individuals—all currently under investigation for fraud against the state—now risk having to repay every last cent, in addition to criminal penalties.
This operation confirms once again that cross-checks between law enforcement and the National Institute of Social Security (INPS) are the most effective weapon against those who turn support measures for the most vulnerable into personal ATMs.
