Naples – A very serious request, reflecting the extent of the criminal power exercised in the Pomigliano d'Arco area. Anti-mafia prosecutor Henry John Woodcock has requested 306 years in prison and fines totaling €260 for 22 defendants, alleged members of the rival Ferretti and Cipolletta clans, believed to be engaged in a years-long feud for control of illegal activities.

The closing argument concluded before preliminary hearing judge Michela Sapio, as part of the fast-track trial. The hearing featured lengthy spontaneous statements from justice collaborator Salvatore Ferretti, a key figure in the investigation, who reconstructed the dynamics, affiliations, orders, and background of the two groups' criminal activities.

The investigation that led to the maxi-trial stems from the arrests of February 25th: on that date, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Castello di Cisterna Group carried out 23 pre-trial detentions and 4 house arrests, by order of the Naples investigating judge Enrico Campoli, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate.

The prosecution's case is extensive and aggravated by the mafia method. The charges include:
mafia-type association,
extortion and attempted extortion,
illegal possession and carrying of weapons,
public intimidation with the use of weapons,
fire,
attempted murder,
prescription,
association aimed at drug trafficking,
possession of drugs for the purpose of dealing,
improper access to communication devices for prisoners,
robbery,
wear and tear,
kidnapping.

A list that, according to investigators, recounts years of domination over the territory, marked by intimidation, violence, and illicit trafficking.

The preliminary hearing judge's decision will be made in the coming months, following the defense's arguments. But the prosecutor's request already marks a decisive chapter in one of the most significant proceedings in recent years in the fight against clans in the Neapolitan hinterland.

It's strange how people talk about mafias, but little about the support they often receive from the public. They should pay more attention to what's happening in our society, not just the convictions.

The article highlights a very serious and worrying issue: the power of clans. It's important that justice takes its course, however, I hope the sentences are fair and not influenced by external factors.
