The Carabinieri of the Capri station launched an operation in the early hours of today, placing a healthcare worker employed at a retirement home on the island under house arrest, with an electronic bracelet.
The order was issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Naples at the request of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office – Section IV "Vulnerable Groups" – which is coordinating the investigation.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the man is responsible for a series of sexual assaults and abuses against elderly residents of the facility. The abuse was aggravated by the victims' evident physical and mental inferiority and by the public role held by the suspect, who was specifically called upon to care for vulnerable individuals.
The investigation, conducted from mid-October to the end of November 2025 by the Carabinieri of the Capri Station with the support of the Sorrento Company's Operations Unit, revealed a pattern deemed "serious and systematic." According to investigators, the OSS allegedly exploited moments when he was alone with the elderly—during daily care or personal hygiene tasks—to force them into sexual intercourse, as well as subjecting them to repeated physical and verbal assaults.

He was incriminated by extensive video recordings lasting approximately three weeks. The images, deemed "unequivocal" by investigators, allegedly show numerous episodes of rape and abuse, always committed during the man's shifts. At least four confirmed victims: three women and one man, all elderly and suffering from serious psychiatric conditions that impaired their ability to defend themselves.
Despite the relatively short observation period, the investigation allowed for the collection of evidence described as "ample and solid." The suspect was also charged with the aggravating circumstances of exploiting his impaired defense and abusing his authority, rooted in his role within the facility.
At the end of the standard procedures, the healthcare worker was escorted to his home, where he will remain under house arrest with an electronic bracelet, as ordered by the Naples Preliminary Investigations Judge.

The article is very worrying and highlights a situation that should never happen. It's unacceptable that those who should care for the most vulnerable abuse them. We need more controls to prevent these cases.
