A tragic traffic accident occurred late yesterday evening in Caserta, along the Strada Statale 700, inside the Royal Palace tunnel. A man lost his life after a violent collision involving two cars, a Porsche and a Fiat 500X, transformed the tunnel into a death scene in a matter of moments.

According to an initial reconstruction, the two cars collided extremely violently while traveling through the tunnel in opposite directions. Following the impact, the Porsche ended up on the edge of the road, while the Fiat 500X came to rest sideways in the center of the road, severely deformed.

The driver of the 500X fared the worst, becoming trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters arrived on the scene and worked extensively to free him, but there was nothing they could do for him: he was pronounced dead from the serious injuries he sustained in the crash. The exact circumstances of the accident are still unclear, and law enforcement is investigating.

State Road 700 was temporarily closed to traffic to allow for surveys and rescue operations, severely impacting traffic throughout the area. Numerous motorists were stuck in traffic for over an hour at the tunnel exit.

This episode adds to the long trail of blood that is marking the roads of Campania in 2025, with a worryingly increasing number of deaths and injuries in road accidents.

Each new crash reignites the debate about safety, enforcement, speed, and compliance with the highway code, especially on busy roads like State Road 700 and in tunnels, where the margin for error and the possibility of escape are minimal.

Faced with yet another life lost on the road, the grief of the victim's family and those close to him remains, while institutions are once again called upon to consider the measures needed to stem a real emergency that continues to impact Campania day after day.

I hope this situation improves soon. Too many people are involved in accidents, and families grieve the loss of their loved ones. We need an immediate change in our road culture.

We can't continue to see this news every day. Authorities should take stricter measures to ensure road safety and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

It's truly sad that accidents like these happen so often. People need to be more careful when driving and obey the rules of the road, otherwise more lives will be lost.
