A clandestine warehouse of highly flammable materials was discovered in the heart of the industrial area between Maddaloni and Marcianise, in the Caserta province. The operation, conducted jointly by the Caserta Provincial Command and officers from the Maddaloni Police Station, resulted in the seizure of several tons of potentially explosive substances and the filing of a criminal complaint against the owner of the company involved.
The operation is part of a broader monitoring effort on workplace safety, coordinated with the technical support of the Local Health Authority (ASL), the Labor Inspectorate, INAIL (National Institute for Industrial Accidents), and the Fire Department. The inspectors entered a logistics company where, from the initial inspections, an alarming picture emerged: dozens of drums containing various types of flammable materials were lying inside the facility, without the necessary safety measures.
The dangerous hidden cargo
Among the substances found were powdered aluminum and barium nitrate, compounds known to be highly hazardous if handled improperly or exposed to heat. But the most worrying discovery came during a more thorough inspection of the company premises: additional quantities of flammable material were found on trailers and trucks parked in the area, weighing several tons in total.
The presence of these substances, stored without the required permits and in complete disregard of fire safety standards, immediately triggered the emergency protocol for materials deemed hazardous to the environment and public health. The area was secured by the Fire Department, while law enforcement officers conducted investigations and identified those responsible.
Serious violations and reporting
Following the technical investigations, it was discovered that the company was operating in complete disregard of safety regulations: it completely lacked the requirements for handling and storing hazardous materials, while fire prevention measures were completely absent. This posed a real risk not only to the company's workers, but to the entire industrial area and surrounding communities.
The company owner was subsequently reported to the judicial authorities for failure to report explosive materials, a crime carrying serious criminal consequences. The entire shipment of flammable material was placed under precautionary seizure and will be managed according to established procedures for the safe disposal of hazardous substances.
The operation confirms the importance of systematic checks in the industrial areas of the Caserta area, where there are numerous incidents of illegal activity related to the storage and trafficking of hazardous materials. Investigations are continuing to determine the origin of the seized goods and identify any other culprits in the supply chain.
